Already bought v2? You keep Advanced features free, forever. Learn more

Bought DualShot before? You keep everything — free.
If you bought DualShot Recorder during the v2 era ($9.99 one-time purchase), every Advanced feature stays free for you, forever. Here’s how it works.

Who qualifies as grandfathered?

You qualify if you purchased DualShot Recorder from DDJR Productions, LLC on the App Store during the v2 era — before we moved to the Free + Advanced subscription model.

That one-time $9.99 purchase is permanently linked to your Apple ID. We do not expire it, downgrade it, or ask you to pay again.

What you get

Grandfathered customers keep every Advanced-tier feature automatically:

  • 4K recording at 24, 30, and 60 frames per second
  • QuickTime .mov output
  • Apple Log and Apple Log 2 (on supported iPhones)
  • Unlimited recording length
  • No watermark
  • Direct-to-drive recording on USB-C SSDs
  • Every future Advanced feature we ship

You do not need to subscribe. The app detects your prior purchase via your Apple ID and unlocks Advanced on every device you sign in on.

How detection works

When you launch DualShot Recorder, the app checks your Apple ID’s purchase history with the App Store. If a v2-era purchase is on file, the app silently grants you permanent Advanced access — no setup, no code to enter, no email confirmation required.

This works across every device tied to your Apple ID. Buy a new iPhone, sign in, and Advanced is already there.

If your status shows as Basic by mistake

Once in a while, the App Store’s receipt check fails to find an older purchase — usually because the device is offline at first launch, or because you’re signed in with a different Apple ID than the one used for the original purchase. If that happens, try these steps in order:

  1. Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that originally purchased DualShot Recorder.
  2. Open the App Store, tap your profile picture, scroll down, and tap PurchasedMy Purchases. Confirm DualShot Recorder appears in the list.
  3. Quit DualShot Recorder completely (swipe it up in the app switcher), then re-open it. The receipt check runs again on launch.
  4. If your status is still Basic, open Settings inside DualShot Recorder and tap Restore Purchases.
  5. Still no luck? Email dualshotrecorder@ddjrproductions.com with the Apple ID email you used for the original purchase. We’ll fix it manually.

Why we’re doing this

You paid for DualShot Recorder when it was a small indie app. That early support is the reason DualShot exists today. Locking you out of features you already paid for — or making you pay again — isn’t how we want to run this. So we’re not.

The App Content Creators Have Been Waiting For!
Extremely simple to use and saves me so much time! I no longer have to have 2 devices recording at the same time. It saves as 2 separate media files. The videos save instantly in your photos folder, no separate app folder — which is nice!

Next Level Content Recorder
It completely transformed how I create content. Being able to record portrait and landscape at the same time on ONE phone is genius. As soon as I'm done recording, it goes straight to my camera roll. No extra steps, no exporting headaches. I loved it so much I bought it on both of my phones.

Great App! Thank You for This!
I have had this dilemma for years, whether to shoot something vertical or horizontal. This is more than a time saver, it gives me options on the back end to make more content. Game changer!! And it doesn't track or collect data, and allows family sharing.

I was skeptical at first but this paid for itself on my first shoot. Two perfectly synced videos from one take — my workflow is cut in half. The recent updates with time-lapse and pause/resume made it even better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about DualShot Recorder. Don’t see your question? Email dualshotrecorder@ddjrproductions.com.
Is DualShot Recorder free?
Yes. The Basic tier is free forever — record portrait and landscape video simultaneously from a single take at 1080p / 30fps, with up to one minute per clip and a small DualShot watermark. The optional Advanced subscription unlocks 4K, 60fps, MOV output, Apple Log, and removes the watermark.
What’s included in the Advanced subscription?
Everything in Basic, plus:
  • 4K resolution at 24, 30, or 60 frames per second
  • QuickTime MOV output
  • Apple Log and Apple Log 2 (on supported iPhones)
  • Unlimited recording length
  • No watermark
  • Direct-to-drive recording on a connected USB-C SSD
Pricing: $1.99 / month or $9.99 / year. Includes a free trial. Works with Family Sharing (up to 6 family members).
I bought DualShot Recorder before — do I have to pay again?
No. If you purchased DualShot Recorder during the version 2 era (the $9.99 one-time purchase), you keep every Advanced feature free, forever — automatically. The app detects your prior purchase via your Apple ID and grants permanent Advanced access on every device you sign in on. If your status shows as Basic by mistake, see the grandfathering page or email support.
Which iPhones are supported?
DualShot Recorder runs on iPhone XS and later, running iOS 17.6 or newer. 4K and 60fps are supported on iPhone 12 and later. Apple Log requires iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro; Apple Log 2 requires iPhone 16 Pro. External drive recording requires a USB-C iPhone (iPhone 15 lineup or later).
How does simultaneous portrait + landscape recording work?
Most camera apps make you choose one aspect ratio before you hit record. DualShot captures both 9:16 (portrait) and 16:9 (landscape) from a single take, producing two separately framed, perfectly synchronized files. You hit record once, get two finished videos — one ready for TikTok / Reels, one ready for YouTube or broadcast. No re-cropping, no re-shooting, no compromising on composition.
Where are my recordings saved?
By default, both files (portrait and landscape) save to your iPhone’s Photos library as two separate videos with matching timestamps. If you’re on the Advanced tier and have a USB-C SSD plugged into your iPhone, recordings save directly to the drive instead — visible in the Files app under your drive’s name.
Can I record directly to an external SSD?
Yes, on the Advanced tier. Plug a USB-C SSD into your iPhone before recording. DualShot detects the drive, requests one-time access permission, then streams both video files directly to the drive instead of using your iPhone’s internal storage. Useful for long shoots, 4K work, and Apple Log at higher frame rates. The drive should be formatted as APFS for best performance — exFAT works but is slower.
What’s Apple Log and why does it need an external drive at 60fps?
Apple Log is a flat color profile that captures the maximum dynamic range your iPhone’s sensor can produce — ideal for professional color grading in tools like DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro. At resolutions above 1080p / 30fps, Apple’s own iOS requirement is that recordings must go to external storage because of the file size and sustained write rate. Without a drive connected, Apple Log on your iPhone is capped at 24fps for the same reason.
Are there any recording length limits?
On the free Basic tier: each recording is capped at 60 seconds. On the Advanced tier: no recording-length limit. We do show a soft warning at 45 minutes and a hard stop at 60 minutes per clip to protect against iPhone thermal throttling during sustained 4K capture, but you can immediately start a new clip and keep filming.
What happens if I get a phone call or my phone dies mid-recording?
DualShot is designed to protect your footage. If a phone call comes in, the app finalizes the recording in the background so what was captured is saved to Photos automatically. If your phone runs out of battery or the app gets force-quit, the next time you open DualShot it scans for unsaved recordings and offers to recover them — in most cases you lose less than 10 seconds of footage from right before the device shut down.
Do you collect my data or videos?
No. DualShot Recorder collects zero data. No accounts, no tracking, no analytics SDKs, no ad networks. Your recordings never leave your device unless you choose to share them. You can use the app entirely offline. The only network traffic the app makes is to fetch app updates and check your iCloud subscription status — nothing about your usage or recordings is transmitted anywhere.
Will DualShot Recorder come to Android?
An Android version is in development. Join the waitlist on this page to get notified when it ships. We’ll only email you for the launch — no marketing emails, no spam.
How do I cancel my Advanced subscription?
On your iPhone, open Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions → DualShot Recorder → Cancel. Apple handles all billing and cancellations — we never see or process payment information. After cancellation, you keep Advanced features through the end of your current billing period, then downgrade to the free Basic tier.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email dualshotrecorder@ddjrproductions.com with a description of what happened and (if possible) the steps to reproduce. We read every message and reply personally. For App Store-related issues, you can also leave feedback in the App Store; we read those too.
What format are the output files?
Basic tier records to MPEG-4 (.mp4) with H.264 video. Advanced tier supports both MPEG-4 and QuickTime MOV (.mov), with H.264 or HEVC video; Apple Log mode uses ProRes inside a MOV container. Both portrait and landscape outputs use the same format and the same audio track. Files include camera metadata (iPhone model, lens info) plus pairing metadata so the two clips can be matched in editing software.
